I purchased these watercolors from the estate of Adam Grant (1924-1992) who was a Toledo area artist. Adam was a master of the human figure and recently had work submitted to the Smithsonian. Adam who was originally from Poland, was captured in 1943 and thrown into in a concentration camp where he used his artistic talent to survive. Amazing story. It’s hard to say who’s hand these are painted by as they are unsigned. But, Berta Hummel and Adam Grant are two talented artists who were in the same place at the same time. If someone out there knows time periods based on C M Fabriano watermarks please comment (see photo), I’d like to know the time period of paper. C M Fabriano Italy is one of the oldest paper mills in the world dating back to the 1200s and still in business today. It’s completely possible that Sister Berta Hummel and Catholic Adam Grant crossed paths and possibly traded artwork. Fun research on these.
