Just picked this up.... maybe someone knows what is written on his hat? I can't figure it out. I have lots of strange little items, but I usually can find even just a little history or a random mention of an item. This bank has got me perplexed. He's brand new, never been used and about 8" tall. I can't tell if he's old and collectible or something new and commonplace. I wasn't sure if he was considered a "piggy bank" as he isn't a "piggy". Sorry if I miscategorized.... Thank you for any help you can give.
I cannot read the words, but it looks like one of the mascots for a Japanese candy, but not 100 percent sure, very cool, and I would have picked it up too.
Welcome to CW nice post.
I had a guest who was from China that stayed at my place. He was a the Head Dean of a large university in Beijing but as soon as he saw the little sailor boy bank he got very excited. He told me he had something very similar when he was a boy. The writing translates to something like, "Save today and tomorrow you will live like a King." In the U.S. we would say, "A penny saved is a penny earned." From his reaction and description I estimate the bank to be mid-1950's or early 1960's. Anymore info is always appreciated though!!! Thanks.
the question is , does he make a sound when you pince him , probably a coin bank can,t see made for children = sera kishimu
