The royal blue Captain Maddox may be one of the rarest of the American made figures from the Johnny West line. The reason being is that the steel blue body version is one of the most common. There is a theory that there were so many of the steel blue figures that not many of were made of the royal blue bodies. It is rare enough that I sold a royal blue body for $50 with no head or hands. Just the arms, legs and torso with no springs that held them together or anything else.
Found this at the Long Beach Antique Mart for just $15 with some accessories. Finished up equipping the figure with my spare parts supply.
Pictures 3 and 4 show the difference between the steel blue body and the royal blue body. On the left in photo 3 is a Custer which also has a royal blue body but has a different torso.
Note the head sculpt is that of Robert Conrad. There was a plan to make Wild Wild West figures but the deal fell through.
What great soldiers fort, I particularly love General Custer
You have the most incredible collection of action figures I've ever seen!!! These are all FANTASTIC!!
OMG! Right away I remembered Johnny West. My oldest daughter was into action figures growing up!!! So, I got them for her. She grew up to be a Playboy Bunny.
Good bit of wheelin' and dealin' there Fort.
Glad you got such a rarity, with body and head too!
Thank you very much Newfld. Good choice.
Thank you very much Scott. Ever so kind of you to say so.
Thank you very much PostCardCollector. Johnny West was one of the few action figure lines that appealed to both boys and girls. Congrats on raising a bunny.
Thank you very much racer4four. It was my big score along with the cast iron lawn gnome.
