Hard to say how old this fan is as I have never researched these before. I am thinking it is older as it has a cast iron base. Probably mid century. Pressed steel replaces cast iron in fans during the 1950s.
As I have mentioned a few times before industrial fans would have enclosed cages unlike the cages of home fans up until the 1960s.. If one is driving a truck or bus you wouldn't want to stick your fingers in the fan while trying to change the radio station. Fans similar to this all over the post WWII aircraft carrier USS Midway. Tight quarters there and the ship lists a bit in a turn and your nose is shorter.
What I would really like is a nice rusty one as seen in the hit movie Duel.
This fan is DC only as it is powered by a 12 volt battery. In the long ago it could be connected to any vehicle. Not so much now.

There's an antique store in a neighbouring city with a bunch that seem to be 1920s-1950s. Some are brass bladed. Others have the rubber safety blades. All for cars. One was powered by the vacuum created by the pistons.

Thank you very much SpiritBear. Those sound quite cool especially brass blades. There was a nicer one but the price not quite right.
