This is a brass tool i found while hiking, it was somewhat near cable lines running through the woods. The only markings i could find SI-5, 0/1 AL, 150 mil. It looks like some kind of lineman wire strippers but i cant find anything online about this thing.

Welcome to CW Dominic2011, I hope you find out what this is, because I'd like to know too! :^)

Agree w/bill on both counts -- welcome Dominic, and I'd love to know what it is, too?! Looks like a very nicely made thing (which probably cost the employer of whoever dropped it some fair coin?!) which would also look way-cool sitting on a (your) display shelf! :-) What kind of 'cable lines' was it found nearby, overhead power lines, buried telco/comm cables, or something else?

Meant to add, does it appear to have any sort of 'cutting edge' to it anywhere? If not, maybe it is more some kind of cable "clamp" than "stripper"??

Looks like it could be used for wrapping insulation or twisting wires together.

Hello and thanks, the lines were over head, nothing big or serious. I think it had 3 or 4 cables on it. I added better pictures, there is a cutting edge on it making me think the arms are for twisting.

Could also be a breaking system for scaling wire, looks like it is made to be hung. Just a guess. Hope you find out.

I can see it now Dominic2011, The adjustable cutting blade, for setting the depth, I believe you're right, the ring, is just for lifting it, or holding it while in a basket, and the other side with the 90' bend is a handle for turning it. I saw newer ones, similar, but this one must be very old, I'll see if I can find one again, and add a link. :^)

      Here's a newer type:

I hope this helps, there's a video on YouTube on how to use one, if you search! :^)

Here's the video, this for underground, but I think similar to the tool you have:

I might be wrong, but you might be right! :^)

COOL SOLVE, y'all!! <applause> Gotta admit, had I found this somewhere in the woods, I wouldn't *even* be thinking about 'returning it to the power co.' ... it'd be sitting on a shelf somewhere instead, to glance at every time I pay the power bill... ;-) [besides, I'm sure they have another one to replace it with...? <lol>]
