This is a nice pair of cased tintypes. They are ninth plates and show an often repeated scene.
The woman is in mourning and holds the image of her husband. I cannot see enough details to identify the clothing, but it is possible that the man is wearing a sack coat and served as a soldier.
On the back of the plate are two revenue tax stamps identifying the photograph as Civil War era. The tax on photographs was a Civil War US Government revenue generator and in effect from 1 AUG 1864- 31 JUL 1866.

These are really great tintypes. I'm sure those were hard times then. I wonder if the woman in the photo is actually much younger than she appears.
