I now know of three types of Merletto glass.

The most common is Harrtill glass from Harrach(ov) which utilised a woven cloth with three strand in bothe the warp and the weft. The warp had the strands twisted together, but the weft kept them separate but parallel, making a very distinctive pattern that you can see in the fourth photo of a white and red bowl.

The second type is rare and is from makers in Murano. I describe it is being like tangle blonde hair as there is no distinct weave pattern but in the better ones there is some grouping which is then joined rather like Zanfirico. If you Google "Seguso Merletto" you will see some delightful examples.

The third type was for some weeks a puzzle. It is shown in the first three photos. You can see there is some sort of woven structure - not nearly as defined as Harrtil, nor so delicate as the Murano type. It turns out to be Ritzenhoff Netzdekor made in Germany. An email from them indicated it was made from 1970 to 1980.

Interesting! It does give the vase a very beautiful and different look.
