    I'm trying to figure out what this is, thinking someone here will know.
    It is 4 1/4" x 2 3/8" x 1", weighs 2lb 14 oz, a magnet sticks to it.
    Any ideas welcome!

      14oz is very close to 3lbs. But you can't put 3lbs 3lbs on something. A weight of some kind I agree. It might be a counter-weight for something? It has a rough bottom (not that kind!) so wasn't used on a polished surface? Maybe a weight from the Royal Mint? I would suggest that the "3" is its' weight. After that, help is needed.

      That strip on the side reminds me of a strip on a match box.

      Thanks for the love folks!
      Thank-you for your comments Gillian and betweenthelens! This might never be identified, so until then the rough surface on the bottom will make this a great meat tenderizer, lol.

      Not to say it goes all the way back to Confederation -- but Hey, there is an email address here in the link, and maybe they can help you. I wondering if it is from the Mint, or a Bank? Not sure but give this guy a holler and see if he knows. Thanks hope it help;

      Have the exact thing but with a 2 on it. Any idea what it is or what it was used for?

      Hi Drerwin, nope, I never figured it out. Cool that you have one too, I couldn't find any others

      Just a guess..maybe a specific calibration weight? The cross hatching could be a way to add a grip surface or possibly it was machined to create the exact weight by removing incremental pieces.
