Lots of cast trimming on this one..just the way I like it. Excellent quality working brass lock with key. This was an off the mark attempt by the last owner of restoration and will for sure have to be done properly. Had a tag originally tie to the handle from US customs dated 1896 as shown. It is missing one top center cleat ...have to find one.... but it is for sure, going to be a favorite. Again this one has the oversize corner trims with the only coloration to a trunk having these I could find on a trunk with a makers label, is on drills site, the one he calls the beast. Do you think that this over size trim can be attributed to Abe Foot? Thanks!
Another nice trunk, I personally tend to shy away from refinished trunks unless it is something really special and the price is right, it can be a lot of extra work stripping off a bad refinish job. That being said I love the trunk, the rear flat and corner hinges and front corners, I believe are J.H. Sessions & sons, I did one very similar to this not long ago, cant wait to see some of your work, greendog.
Thanks and Yes, The interior I would suspect to be something of a changeling as he used a waterbase varathane or something to laminate the 1908 catalog pages in.
What a BEAUTY!!!
