I've always wanted to have a bar in my dining room. Actually, I wouldn't mind having a bar in every room in my home but then what would get done? When I came across this very cool old Oshkosh wardrobe trunk from the early 1900's, I thought it would be a good starter bar for the dining room. Why most people these days don't see the potential in a trunk of this size baffles me. This one, was kind of a challenge though because it wasn't all that large, or deep, and required some creativity in allocating its areas, or platforms. One way to beat the usual "it's got to have a large cris-cross wine rack" was to make stand up compartments which you can see on the lower right side of the trunk. I used some old planed wood from the drawers of this one, after I had stripped off the fabric and glue as dividers. I thought mirrors would make it seem a bit larger and they did, adding then to the top half of the left side, then on the right side as well. A few hinges from an old stereo cabinet with some dark glass for that 007 look and presto! We can now make drinks, or pour a glass of wine without having to call for the waiter, or get up from our chairs! So next time you are considering junking that old behemoth trunk that you've been storing forever, consider the possibilities first. They also work great for additional storage space anywhere in the home.
What a great job you have done! It looks excellent :-)
Now, that is just too clever!! Very creative Randall.
