Hi
Well, here we go again!... this is an amazing hand carved wooden sculpture that is painted to look like bronze.
It is signed...but I cant work it out?...any ideas? When I first bought it I immediately thought "Russian"..but this is based on no knowledge or experience..just a gut feeling!
After the signature it looks like "09" or "27" which could be the year 1909/1927. Then again it could be part of the signature.
appreciate any thoughts...
What is quite amazing is that it appears to be carved from one block of wood. I cant see the joins for the pieces on top of the base .
Its one of those....love it or hate it ..guess you know where I stand!
any info appreciated
thanks
Paul
Might be Slava. But it is not in Cyrillic.
Is it wood ???
Hi Vet.... yes wood... not a "hard" wood though...easier to carve I guess
Looks like the horse and the man are wearing suits of armour; or ripplimg muscles. Could signature be German. What's the horse pulling?
Definitely not Russian, nor does it look Russian. The man's face looks like more of a primitive carving, very unusual.
Hi all
thanks for your comments.
The horse is pulling a log/wood. Much like you would see with forest work etc.
..if only I could work out the signature..!
