36" by 29 tall Ornate Victorian Barrel Top Trunk in a five slat format with double end and back horizontal slats. All die-cast trimmings and extra different die-cast front shoulder layout. Corbin lock patent dated 1883. 1885 & 1886. Also has Die-cast rising sun pattern handle caps. The interior is poor with little paper stripping required so that's good. Floral and butterfly embossed tin on this one. No Maker name. Six legged detail top ends. One original handle.
Very nice!! Your trunk collection is simply outstanding!!
Thanks Scott !...It is certainly fun and I love the hunt and collecting different examples. I feel for sure I am creating a back log in the restoration end..lol Once I am Physically able to undertake this challenge I hope I enjoy that as much as the hunt! Thanks again.
Finally! a tin covered trunk that I like, LOL! one of my favorite embossed tins, pretty common but still one of my favorites, I call this one butterflies and flowers, I have three trunks with this tin pattern that I'am working on for my granddaughters, when its in good condition it really looks good finished in a soft metallic paint. Very nice hardware, nice cast front shoulders, this trunk will be really nice when you get it done, and judging by the size of your collection, you better get cracken! LOL, greendog.
Do yo have one listed painted..I was sure what to call the front part but you say shoulder is this the actual correct terminology. Yes I had better get cracken!! At 15 posts I am five short of my half way mark what an idiot Huh!!
I mean't to say "was not sure" what to call the front part..I'll have to proof read better before hitting enter!!! lol
Absolutely not! I wouldn't say that, you have a very good eye for trunks, I got that term from Jim Cardoza at HMS trunks, I've learned a lot from him in a short time, I don't know how long you have been collecting but I was much like you in my beginning, I would buy every trunk I saw, but I soon realized, trunks take up a lot of room, so I have sold some of my collection, and now I try to buy higher end more collectible trunks, and they don't come along as often, greendog.
I hear you on that, This month I believe would mark 1 year of collecting trunks. Yes, I too am just watching for higher end trunks Barrel top as that is my favorite with die cast. I have some roll top and flat top but hey must be unique in someway basically trimmings. As far as space is concerned tell me about it! Even though I still look I am kind of hoping I don't find one..lol I only have three within the realm of the common in the flat top or roll top and that was just to have the example of each.
It can definitely become an addiction! greendog.
YUP!! On that one! lol Summer is coming and I am looking forward to digging in and doing something to something for a change of pace. I really love turning something neglected into something beautiful again, its very gratifying.
