This is our new "The Northern California Carpenter" magazine, and I wanted to know what you think of this post! This was an email that I sent to some of the Carpenters that I know.

    Sisters In The Brotherhood

This photograph might be sexist, and I don't really want it be anything, but a statement of days gone by, and of the new strength, that the Carpenters Union now has, because of the Sisters in the Brotherhood.

Women were just becoming part of the Carpenters Union forty-one years ago when I joined. Now, women have become an important part of our Union's workforce, and Organizing efforts, and are also part of our retired Carpenters too!

Thank you all, for your hard work, and for keeping our Carpenters Union strong!

Thanks for looking, all comments, and questions are welcome! :^)

Union proud Bill, that's great to give credit to the ladies participation. My husband has been in an IBT local (technicians, drivers, warehousing) for many years, he succeeded a lady for shop steward - she was an intense fighter! - Jenni

      Thanks Jenni,
good luck to your husband, in filling her shoes, hard work, and organizing, is the key!
Two women in our Northern California Regional Counsel that just retired, one was the V.P. of the Counsel, and our Local recording secretary, the other was a Business Agent of our local, and both, started as apprentices, became Journeymen Carpenters, and were elected to their positions, an achievement for anyone in the Trade, not just a woman. Yes you're right Union Proud! :^D

Thanks for the love, mikelv85, and Jenni, always nice to get! :^)

Unionism is strength and unity. That’s why they hate it.

Same as the Ironworkers there are some great women welders and Ironworkers. Both my children had a go at it. My daughter got into working iron until she was accepted into the Police service. My son still works iron. As for me I finally hung up my belt for good. Union all the way!!!

Keeping the Unions strong, and instilling a good work ethic, in your children, roddyq, I'm sure they both thank for that! I thank you, for taking the time, to take a look, and add a comment! :^)

I think that one was published when we had the International SIB conference in Vegas. Also, the first woman to officially join the UBC was actually in the early 1930's. I am a proud UBC member, general carpenter (specializing in large-scale commercial concrete, and most recently a BA for the PNW Regional Council. Thank you for sharing, brother!
