Mid 1870's Barrel top... A little rough, but after seeing a Greendog Job on a similar style one, I am sure there is hope for this fellow. It has brass cover slat ends and an unusual die-cast detailed hinges which looks like the lid support is built in. First one I have seen like this. Both are broken, but differently. I guess no wonder as the size looks pretty insignificant in relation to the volume it must support.
Cool, very similar, another trunk that will look very nice refinished, greendog.
After seeing yours I hope it comes out as nice or even close to would be fine. I really like the color..what did you use..a fruit wood stain or is that just the natural color.
Cherry, but it would have look much the same even if I had used a clear finish, the pine on old leather covered trunks takes on a red color from the leather, I've done some in clear finish and they looked virtually the same, greendog.
