Here's another 'old wood box' from my collection. I can't say I remember exactly when/where I got it, neither do I know anything at all about the champagne it once presumably held a bottle of beyond what is marked on the box itself. About 14" long and roughly 4" square.
"CHAMPAGNE POL ROGER & Co EPERNAY FRANCE" on one side and its top, "IMPORTER W. A. TAYLOR & Co NEW - YORK N.Y." on the other side. There's a paper label on the top that further identifies its former contents as "DRY SPECIAL" with legalese quantity/alcohol content info. The sides of the box are made of thin (5/16") solid wood, its bottom (and top) are similarly thin (3/16") plywood, and the whole thing is seemingly only assembled with tiny nails. The top cover slides in and out of a dado groove cut into the inside of each side piece.
What I'm still most curious about with this box is somebody's handwritten notation on one of its ends (4th pic) which reads "TROLLEY - BARN. 1 - 2 - 59". Could this have been somebody's 'souvenir' of the inauguration/dedication of a railroad/train/transit facility someplace, then??
