    Jayday
    (1 item)

Picked this old girl up from a guy who found it in an old house he was renovating and wanted rid of it.
The pictures are of the trunk In the rough condition I found it. need to replace some slats at sides due to borer damage
And the leather is totally crumbly to touch.
Each leather panel has a different pattern.
Would like to replace the leather if possible.
Would the patterning have been done with pyrography or painted onwith a dye?
Appears to be Asian/Indian in origin looking at the paper lining not sure of age.

Hey Jayday, your trunk is 100% american made, around early to mid 1880's, because of the latches on the front, patented around 1882- 1884 or so, recovering a trunk in leather can be done but it is very time consuming and expensive, would require the removal of everything down to the bone, I don't believe leather was burned or painted, they used embossing tools, some of the designs were done after the leather was on the trunk, when you remove old leather you can see the lines/designs in the wood, good luck with your project, greendog.

bib5859, has posted some trunks that he recovered in leather, I believe he had the leather laser burned, very nice job, greendog.

Yes They were burned in with a laser printer
      Nice but expensive.
