I purchased this trunk a few years back from an antique shop in Colorado. It had green fabric glued all over it. Took the fabric off and stained the outside.. and I love the rustic look... still has all the metal trim with the MM... I'm estimating this trunk to be at least 125 years old. I was raised in the Detroit area so this trunk has special significance for me

As you already know, Martin Maier, from around late 1880's to early 1890's , no earlier than 1887, the metal lid lifter in the picture with the green material was patented in 1887, looks like a corbin brass lock, missing four pieces of M hardware on the front, all the wood slats have been removed at some time and put back on with screws, what happened to your lid lifter and the other front latch, greendog.
