This trunk came to Texas on a covered wagon. This is a family heirloom I inherited that was my great great grandmothers and possibly her mother’s trunk. Anyone know anything about this trunk? Know what type it is? How old it possibly is? The nail picture is a nail that fell out of the back of the trunk. I believe it is hand forged.

Sorry AlLThingsOld , but the latches on the front and the corner hardware tell me your trunk is from around the late 1890's to early 1900's, and the nail is not hand forged it is a machine made cut nail, this type of nail has been used in trunks sense the 1850's and probably before, greendog.

Thanks greendog for the input. I knew it couldn’t be any earlier than 1872 but wasn’t too sure about the age of it. My great grandmother was born in 1896 so the time frame certainly fits.
