    Cast iron amphora with two handles, with the remains of the old gilding
    i do not really know a lot about pieces like this
    looks like neoclassicism to me
    butis it an Neoclassicism piece around 1780-1850 or a historicism piece from the 1880s to 1900?
    it strongly reminds me of karl friedrich schinkel's designs
    somebody owns the Bard Graduate Center exhibition catalogue: "Cast Iron from Central Europe, 1800-1850"?
    An nearly identical urn is illustrated on page 218 i've read....

      yes... i will not touch it with water or chemicals of any kind
      i 've just used a fine brush to remove the dust
