Hello everyone!!
My latest bronze sculpture find. A Franz Iffland bronze sculpture. This one was made in France and titled "Joli Chat" , meaning "Beautiful Cat". I'm told that this is from the very early 1900's. It s signed with the sculptor's signature on the side of the chair. I really love the detailing of this sculpture, especially the cat under the chair. I've seen several reproductions of this sculpture, but it's definitely the first of this particular sculpture that I've seen cold painted like this one as any others I've ever seen are not. And you also will rarely see the cat under the chair on the reproductions. There is another sculpture that goes with this one and I hope to add that one to my collection eventually.
Franz Iffland (1862–1935) was a German sculptor and painter who worked during the late 19th and early 20th century.
Many many thanks to you all for stopping in for a look!!!! I do appreciate you all very much!

Yes Scott this is a very fascinating sculpture, both the lovely child & adorable kitty! Very realistic with the cat "hiding" in the corner of the chair
Jenni,
Thank you so much!! I knew you'd appreciate this one as well. The cat hiding under the chair is probably my favorite part of this sculpture!!!

Love how real this child looks. The facial expression is priceless!
Wow, I had never heard of this maker till now, but look at the details on this!
Thank you Karen!! I too love her facial expression.
Thank you Mrstyndall!! Juan Clara's sculptures were very popular in the first half of the 1900's. There are quite a few "Fakes" of his sculptures out there, but those are all very crudely done and easy to spot. I was lucky to find this one.

Super! It's hard to believe it's in bronze. I love it, specially the little cat :) how funny that he only made children on chairs
Thank you Fran!! Yep, children having trouble with chairs and stools is all that we know Juan Clara ever did, as peculiar as that may seem. Thanks also for the love and for stopping by!!
I love it! It is so animated, so full of life! I especially like the cat detail =)
Thanks so very much Anna!! Everyone comments on this one when they drop by our house. I do love Juan Clara sculptures.
