Krause Publications Historic Medals and Badges Group
Krause Publications formerly of Iola, Wisconsin is best known for Numismatic News, the Standard Catalog of World Coins and Old Cars Weekly. Starting in chronological order are KP Workers badges from 1981 and 1982. These badges were only issued to Krause Publications office workers during the Iola Old Car Show as passes so that the workers could go to work without having to pay admission to the Car show which surrounded the Krause Publications building. In later years employees were just given regular admission badges without the KP Worker distinction. Both badges are much harder to find than the regular show admission badges purchased by the general public. The 1981 badge has light spotting due to a flawed manufacturing process.
The first medal commemorates KP’s 40th anniversary in 1992 and the Iola Village Centennial of the same year. The medal is the size of a silver dollar and is made of gold colored bronze metal with a reeded edge. The second medal of antiqued bronze, commemorates KP’s 45th anniversary in 1997 and that KP was an Employee Stock Ownership Company, “ESOP” at the time. This medal is mint sealed as issued. The third medal in gold bronze commemorates KP’s 50th anniversary in 2002 with a portrait of the company founder Chester L. Krause on the obverse and the 50th anniversary logo on the reverse.
All the medals are silver dollar size with reeded edges .
