These were added to a small collection of this shape a few weeks ago and are by far the most unusual, by reason of their colour.
It's only recently that I've learned that these, and other similar shapes, are neither vases nor candle holders but are in fact life lights. Life lights used oil and a floating wick to make a small, portable lamp. They would have been used in much the same way as a fairy lamp or candle lamp.
The information came from another C.W. contributor, IMASapp, in a link to a 1998 article entitled, 'Christmas Lights and Other Related Candle Lamps', by Lloyd J. Graham.

You are not alone, scott. Thank you !
Well what a surprise Peggy! Quite a revelation! I have always thought vases. I do like the name Life Lights. :)
Me too, Lesley! It always niggled me that as vases they were only suited to the daises that grow as weeds in a lawn!
Lol!!! Peggy, Good point! :)
Thank you, Ken, enough to make you reach for your sunglasses !
What Beautiful colour vases..oops, scrub that, I mean life life lights. How interesting. Do you think Welz tri lobe vases could be life lights too?
Just read IMAsapps link you mentioned. Very interesting. I never realised tulip vases are also life lights! Number 23 looks very like a tri lobe vase. Looking around me, I think half the vases I have are life lights!
Hi Fran, I do think the tri-lobed heart shape is a Life Light, as you will read later. Interesting isn't it?
I'm pleased you like them, Ms.CrystalShip. These are victorian in period and style and many people shy away from the ornateness of them.
It's all Very interesting. Looking around me all I see are life lights now, lol. What do you think about a Welz trophy vase? It has a small flared rim and even has carrying handles :)
These are wonderful, sklo! I have never seen that shade of green in Bohemian glass before, and your group shot is terrific. I always look forward to reading your posts, because aside from learning something interesting, it feels like I am peeking into a colorful candy store! ;)
