This little froggie was found in a strange shop- a bit of a junk shop, bit of an antique shop, bit of everything! What drew me to him was how dark he was, and unusually detailed and with 3 legs! From what I gather- the 3 legged frog is some sort of good luck symbol in China? Other than that I don't no anything about him- what he's made from, what he's used for and what he means. There are no stamps or marks anywhere on him.
The thing is I've seen such similar little figures elsewhere (like on that show Antiques Roadshow...) but those figures were little dragons and foo dogs and were part of travelling poetry/writing sets I believe? It makes me wonder is this little frog part of some similar set? Cost €8 ($9.58/£7.06)
Can you tell what he is made of?
Thanks AdeleC and Nutsabotas6!...My guess is he may be made of resin? or a very dark and dense wood?
...or could it be Black argillite ?? Just throwing that out there....

That's pretty cool Lauren!! I too have a lucky Chinese money frog, but mine is made of bronze. I'm told that you should stick a coin in his mouth and place him in a well lit spot and he'll increase your wealth. Lol, I'm still waiting for mine to come thru for me:)
Ha- thanks for that tip Jscotto363! Anything that increases one's wealth is worth a try.....:)
Thanks for the suggestion Antiquerose, It's definitely some sort of carved dense stone.
It appears to be a feng shui lucky money frog/toad. The open mouth is where a coin is usually kept. He is an icon of prosperity and monetary gain. It could be made of a dark Amber.
