    Hey Guys,
I have the 3 pictured trunks. The Vuitton's leather is very dry. Should I try and use something to restore? It's a very large trunk
    ( 44L x 27H x 25W ) Any suggestions?
The other two I believe are Saratoga Gypsy trunks from the 1800's, both very large. What do you think?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I really love the LV trunk!! I've restored several leather trunks and have been quite successful using Leather Rejuvenator, which I purchase from Preservation Solutions. I then give an application of mink oil (creme form) and buff it to a nice shine. But, that's just my preference. Here's a couple of leather trunks I brought back to life, using the method described. Good luck!

Any good leather cleaner and conditioner will work just fine, I use Lexol leather conditioner, if it's dry you need to get something on it. As for the round tops, the first one is a Romadka Brothers from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, very nice condition, this was a crystallized tin trunk, I would guess gold in color as it was the most popular, crystallized tin looked somewhat like a frosted window but in color, I would say mid to late 1880's. The other trunk, again very nice condition, crystallized tin, nice cast hardware, if no label inside hard to say who the maker was, same time period, greendog.

Thanks guys for the info. I've been attempting to restore Steamer trunks for about 4 yrs now. I've gotten better but still learning. I have about 12 in my collection and a few I'm still trying to get information on. I'll send a few more pics to let you guys take a crack at. Tks

I came across this restoration site while searching for moynat info. It includes Louis Vuitton. What they can do is quite amazing well worth a a view and a read. http://www.la-malle-en-coin.com/avant-pares-exemples-de-restauration-de-malle-de-luxe.html

Wow, that sites incredible. I have a monogram Vuitton just picked up and it's rough. Would love to see what these guys could do with it. But unfortunately, I believe they are not local.
