Picked up today my first wall trunk today, always wanted one in my collection. As it turns out it was to be an 1890's 32" Palica (Common sense ) Wall Trunk with great hardware including the Eastlake pattern lock, #4 clasps, cast (floral?) handle caps and large patent dated 1891 bulbous corner bumpers. The trunk measures 32 x 19 deep x 23 tall and actually retains 3 different identification labels and 4 in total. Both ends have the same style label with patent dates, top of lid, exterior has a fair size embossed metal medallion style plate and a large inside label with patent dates and a Canadian patent date as well. Thought that was pretty cool in its own right. No interior tray which is a bummer because the inside support rails have a metal strip in a drop down cut out portion at the rear back with one metal strip on the lid stay side. I would like to find a picture of the tray bottom so I can understand the significance of those inlaid metal strips. The owner said his buddy put it out for the garbage when he showed up by chance, thus rescuing it. He is not an antique kinda guy but still knew that it was wrong... which was correct obviously and now its mine.
