Lots of nice trunks being posted here on CW so I thought I'd show you a not so nice one i'm working on. I got this Flat top at a Flea market several years ago for $20 , it was painted all white and missing the tray inside. What a job it was getting the white paint stripped off, sheeesh!! I then sanded the wood slats as they were weathered gray and coated them with tongue oil. The leather was missing and I replaced it all, the sheet steel was Blued. I'm still working on cleaning it up and have the inside stripped to the wood, not sure what I'll do inside. I like the way it looks rough and banged up. Thanks for looking!
Looks great so far with the mild worn look! Amazing what you can find under a coat of paint.
Agree 100% painted trunks can be a pain, and that's exactly why I avoid them like the plague, all though there are always exceptions, Martin Maier, Romadka Brothers or any unique ornate trunk, just to much extra work. I like your trunk you did a fine job, just a suggestion, I have lined many flat tops with white or red cedar, makes a nice storage trunk for blankets or what ever. greendog.
Thankyou Im4anythingOld for that nice comment, Glad you love that worn look to!
Thanks greendog, I'll think twice next time I see a Painted one! LOL I like your suggestion for the inside as we do plan on using it for blankets.

Thanks Lady_Picker and Manikin!
I love this trunk. We had one many years ago, when children were young. Most versatile item. Ours wasn’t beautiful. Someone had painted it garish green all over; but it made a great table for juvenile tea parties (with a tray on its top), nevertheless. Yours is in much better shape, for sure. Best of success with the redo.
Thanks Daisy1000, this one sits between two easy chair's and full of blankets and doubles for an end table
