Even though I own over 80 pieces of three-handle vases I still don’t have all the shapes (trade anyone?)... I have advanced the collection buying what I could and trying to get rare colors and enamel decor, these two topics I will handle later.
I separate size into two catagories: one size only and multi-size piece. So not all three handle shapes came in different sizes- for the complete “shape” chart look in Jericho posts in a few days...
1. Inverted handle: this is where the design of the handle becomes a foot (tri-foot pieces?). This series comes in 3 sizes (that I have seen), but if comes in 4 sizes I would not be surprised.
2. Half -Circle: this shape comes in 4 sizes but is limited on colors- if you see it in pink, blue or cameo-jump in it! I did see one at Kovecheck Gallery that was cobalt papillon selling for several thousand dollars though...
3. Ear-handle shapes: although you could say this series comes in 2 sizes they are technically 2 shapes.... actually there are 5 distinct shapes that I have found in the ear-handle series.
4. Keystone variation 2: These are very similar to the Loetz Keystone shape except the neck is straight not flaired.... my theory is that the companies collaborated to meet demand- I will show the straight VS flared design elements in the next post..... this shape comes in 2 sizes .
PS remember this post is based on my own collection census and experience.... I may be contradicted by future examples or design specs from old or new Loetz books- I do think that some designs from books were never produced and there are sizes or designs without production documentation
