I found this at an antiques store that was going out of business. It measures 42"x 24"x 24" and weighs about 50 lbs... empty! It is a beast! It was designed to carry everything you might need for a 3 or 4 month journey at sea. I reupholstered it, polished all the brass, and painted parts of the exterior. The original color can be seen in the riveted corner sections of picture #4 however, I painted the flat sides black to contrast with the polished brass.
It came with several accessories like an ironing board and flatiron that buckled in to the bottom of the case, the original wooden hangers, a small handled case that kept all your smaller personal items (at the bottom right of picture #3). This case would detach and sit above telescoping hanging clothes rods. It also had a small curtain (not pictured) that would swing out from the trunk and allow you some privacy to change your lower garments. The only date I found on this trunk was 1924 and that was the patent date on the bottom of the ironing board. I apologize to the purists who think I should have left it alone.
If anybody knows anything about this trunk I'd love to learn from you.
