LIVE FROM NEW YORK, THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD, ITS THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN!! TONIGHT, [insert guests/segments] PLUS PAUL SHAFFER AND THE CBS ORCHESTRA!! AND NOW, [insert goofy fictional achievement/title] DA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-VI-I-ID LETTERMAN!!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Byrey4O3YMA

Dave was always my favorite late-night TV host, essentially from his very beginnings as a guest host for Johnny Carson on THE TONIGHT SHOW. (who's hosting job there was robbed from him by Jay No-No when Johnny retired but nevermind all that, it worked out OK...)

Anyways, roughly a dozen years ago now, through a very fortunate series of unusual events, I was able to spend an afternoon/evening in NYC, in order to personally attend a taping of THE LATE SHOW as a member of the 'studio audience'. It was a fascinating and unforgettable experience overall for *so many* reasons -- to finally "be there live" after watching on TV for so many years was just incredible and, in fact, kinda overwhelming...?! <lol> [I don't remember his name offhand, but the young star of the then-new (2nd) SPIDERMAN movie was the evening's featured guest] I ended up with a decent seat right in the middle of the main floor of the (much smaller in reality, than it looks on TV) theatre though slightly underneath the front edge of the balcony -- in studying the videotape of the show after returning home, I was able to kind of 'spot myself' in one or two fleeting 'audience pan' shots. OH -- and in case anybody actually clicks the YouTube link above -- I picked that particular one because it is the way the 'opening theme' music is *actually heard* when you're sitting there with 'em -- the music really *is* that long (only the last little bit ever made it 'on-air') and the audience didn't really hear the 'voiceover'.

This t-shirt and classic LATE SHOW coffee mug are my souvenirs purchased from the Ed Sullivan Theatre Gift Shop that afternoon. They have always been 'treasured items' ever since, even moreso now since Dave himself has now retired and passed his legacy on to Stephen Colbert. [who I also adore, since his start w/Jon Stewart on Comedy Central]

Nice souvenirs, from an exciting time for you AO! :^D I was in the audience, for the live, taping of the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show, at KGO Broadcasting in San Francisco, in the 1960's. It was a fun experience, Applaud, and Laugh lights flashing at the appropriate times, and coaches, to show you what to do, and seeing the Stars on the stage right in front, singing and joking. I went with my Cub Scout Den 3, of Pack 60. With the same Den, we also got to see Willie Mays, and the rest of the SF Giants, play the LA Dodgers, at Candlestick Park! An exciting time for an 8yo boy! Popcorn and Cracker Jacks! :^D Thanks for the post and the memories! :^)

Thanks SO VERY MUCH to Windwalker, jscott0363, buckethead, fortapache, Caperkid, Brunswick, Trey and billretirecoll for your <love its> and especially Windwalker and billretirecoll for your so-kind comments!

Bill -- thank YOU for also sharing the memories of your CubScouts trip(s) -- I have no doubt your experiences were much the same in 'generally unforgettable totally awesome-ness' -- and I'm very pleased to have prompted the recollections for 'ya. :-) :-) :-)
