I really love the design of this 2 1-4" hummingbird brooch, with his fuchsia pink rhinestone head, white pave accents & tiny blue eye on textured goldtone. This bird's long curved beak (w/ slight upper tarnish) is for getting deep inside tiny flowers to draw out the nectar - in Brazilian Portuguese the bird is called beija-flor, which means kiss the flower, I love that romantic name. By Marcel Boucher (1937-1971) item #7863P

Oh, this little hummingbird is superb Jenni!! We have a lot of hummingbirds in our trees and keep a couple of feeders filled all thru the spring and summer.

You know something Scott, except for on nature documentaries I don't think I've ever seen a real hummingbird, they are so quick & small, and they never go to regular seed feeders just the special sweet ones. It's one of those things if you blink you miss them, like chickadees, when I had a feeder it was so funny to see them drop down quickly for a seed & take it away to eat later

Ken thank you for IDing my Boucher, I had hoped you would as I've noticed on other posts you can do that, love to have that knowledge - I finally recently did get that costume jewelry 202 by Carroll book & saw my Trifari halo basket on the cover you told me about

You're so lucky Thomas to have hummingbirds around, I can imagine them flying at you with those speedy wings & they're tiny right, buzzing around like dragonflies (those we do have, you often have to dodge them)

Thanks friends for the great comments & love

Jenni, it's such a pretty thing, but you sure can have real hummingbirds in your backyard. Here in NY we have just one kind, the Ruby-throated hummers, and they are back as of late April. Buy a hummer feeder, they have them in any home-improvement store or internet (make sure it's easy to take apart and clean- some of them can be frustrating!). Mix sugar and water in 1:4 ratio (i do 1/4 cup sugar: 1 cup water so it doesn't have to sit in a fridge too long), fill the feeder, put it out and wait. It's a good time to see a bunch of them now before they start nesting, as they do come less frequently in June-July but come back like crazy in August-September before they go back to warmer climates. I even managed to take semi-decent close-up pictures of them in the past. Happy hummingburding!! =)

Anna how lovely to have hummingbirds around, esp the ruby throated are so beautiful, somewhere I have a porcelain plate with one flying into a pink hibiscus flower, one of my fave things. I do know it's possible to see them in NY as several folks nearby have the sugar feeders, it's just that I personally have never been fortunate enough to see one, and have seen on TV how beautiful their iridescent little bodies are - will have to follow your advice & make my own feeder & keep a lookout. Where I live now, eastern Long Island, the most populous bird is the red winged blackbird, who are very protective of their nests around now & send threatening cries every time you walk past! Many thanks for the kind comment & the love Anna, and hope to see a post of your hummingbird pix

I give up Jenni, I can't pass this up any more, it's just too nice! :^D I have a little silver Pomegranate tipped salt spoon that I just got, that has the same cluster of fuchsia rhinestones, and every time I see this little Hummingbird Brooch, it reminds me, that I should post it! I love it! Thanks! :^)

Laura thank you so much for the great comment, I liked the sloping look of the beak too so I put the angled photo as my "opener" even tho pic #2 is the most popular pose of this hummer brooch - oftentimes you get surprised looking at your pix as to what angle came out better

Bill, really glad you liked this it's always great hearing from you, & I hope you will be posting that fuchsia tipped salt spoon in future

Thank you Laura & Bill 4 the kind loves
