I'd been watching this ring for sometime, I had a feeling with the leaves and berry work it could be Bernard Instone. The ring is definitely in the art and craft design, the gold leaves which are set on silver split shank also with silver berries it does have a Instone look. I've looked on line but found no paua shell work amongst Instones pieces. After watching this ring for several months I decided to buy it, I still think the ring is in the design of Instone but I'm not 100 percent sure, I know Mary thew used abalone. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks for looking.

It's lovely and I see what you mean, but I can't help thinking that Instone would have used a closed-back setting for anything that isn't a faceted stone. I've never seen him use pau shell/abalone either. Enjoy it as a beautiful ring!

Hi pebble, I have the same opinion as yourself although I have a ruby red Bakelite drop Pendant with typical Bernard Instone silver leaves. I'll put the link below. Thanks for your comment and help.

Awwww, thanks nutsabotas sorry for the late reply, it is one of my favourite rings and the abalone in the middle in certain light it glimmers like an Opal.

The shell in the ring is most possibly not original , when a agate gets damaged it is common place to cut Paua ect shell done by a restorer as is easily worked by a file and is a lot cheaper ,while getting a custom cut agate cut to replace the original is not always feasible due to cost

Thank you Agate, to me that makes sense because has I said in my write up I believe this ring to have been designed by Bernard Instone and he used agates, Citrine, Opal, Moonstones and Amethyst. I've never known instone to use Paua shell so I'm really leaning to this ring being Bernard Instone. Many for your comment.

I decided to change the paua shell and and put a flat top amethyst stone, hopefully in keeping with the ring. I wonder what you think.
