The lyrics tell that a toy soldier is sad because he has been shelved so long and altho other toys around him have increased in price but not he. AND the little girl doll that used to flirt with him, now is flirting with the other higher priced soldiers. In fact it suggests his "Tin Gee-Gee" (?) has devalued him! What the heck.
AH HA!! I researched as nobody here had an easy answer for me, and after about 45 min,,,I found it
"Chester racecourse is the oldest in the UK and the founding father of Chester Races was Henry Gee, a Mayor of Chester during the reign of Henry VIII. Although he died in 1545 his name lives on in the often used nickname for racehorses: Gee-Gees
Very interesting story & cute picture of the man searching for something. So it must be a tin horse, right - from the picture, it appears to be the name of a song
Very interesting!
Horses are called gee gees in Aus and probably elsewhere, but I never knew it was because of Mr Gee! Thanks Lois :))
I am familiar with the word GeeGaw. It means something showy, or worthless.
