I have this trunk, given to me by my MIL. 22"H × 24"L x 18"W, alligator style tin, 4 steel wheels that work, 1 leather handle is perfect, 1 leather handle needs replaced/fixed. I know absolutely nothing about it and do not want to potentially ruined it when trying to clean it. Can anyone help with any info on what exactly I have, if it is worth cleaning up and the best way to go about cleaning it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You have a very lovely ‘wall trunk’, from around late 1890’s to early 1900’s. They are called wall trunks because as you see you can lift the lid whilst they remain flat against a wall as opposed to standard trunk the need to be pushed forward. These trunks are rarer style and high a bit higher value. A simple clean with a cloth and warm soapy water would suffice.

You could repaint the tin and refinish the wood slats but it has a nice look as it is. Nice to see it has a makers label which you normally don’t find. For posting pictures that don’t end up sideways on post you need to hold phone camera horizontally when taking pic. Beautiful trunk, thanks for the post and welcome to collectors weekly!

Thank you so much for the response! I will try to clean it up a little bit and post some pictures (upright lol).
