The Orkidea vase was one of my first Finnish pieces. I found it in a thrift shop twenty five years ago. I had one of the stacking bottles for many years as well and sold it because I had not been able to get a mate for it. A few weeks later I was at a market and picked up this pair. Perhaps there is a message here?
Pinottava means 'stacking' in Finnish.
The Orkidea vase is a sculptural design by Timo Sarpaneva that won the Grand Prix at the 1954 Milan Triennale and was voted the "Most Beautiful Object of the Year" by House Beautiful magazine in the same year.
Hi, they are both the same shape. I got into problems trying to express the cleverness of the design. I've seen three stacking and I reckon more is possible.
Stacking is something which appeals to me.
I'll come across another blue one or two in time. There are some new colours that Iittala are producing at the moment too. Thanks again.
Hi thanks for the pages. Actually I have this book too! It was the first book on Scandinavian design that I came across in a remaindered book store here: Eileene Harrison Beer’s Scandinavian Design.
I mention it on my comment about the Hadeland vase that I have posted. Only Marty has seen it I think. It is on the front cover of the book. I have been searching for another one for twenty years.
But thanks again for the pages. I just had another look at the book and noted that at the top there is a very dark photo of the cocktail shaker and glasses by Sarpaneva. These were the ones that they later put the gold and silver handles on and made them into Tsaikka – the tea glasses. I got six of the blue ones at a market here a month ago. Thanks again.
I love thos Hoglunds!
Many thanks BELLIN68!
These are lovely, vetraio! I've got two pinottava bottles in blue and clear and in different sizes. I would love to get a red or purple one to have the three of them stack on top of each other. As for the small Orkidea, you're a lucky guy! :) I wish I had one myself!
