This Esso Petrol Pump set was part of the short lived Accessory Pack line. This one was made from 1957-1962. Other set were a car transporter and a garage. Later they made a BP gas pump set.
At 3 1/2" long this is bit larger than the regular matchbox cars as can be seen by the VW Beetle that pulled up to the pumps. It is metal as is the sign. Not sure how the sign got a hole in it. Perhaps a mold defect. The attendants name is Nigel I believe. At a now defunct Matchbox site we gave the little people names.
As I have not mentioned this for a bit this was made in England by Lesney. Lesney and Matchbox were pretty much the same thing. Now Matchbox is just a name that is owned by Mattel.
Great retro piece, I love this whole Esso setup incl the man at the pumps, very nice
