The original soap savers had a wire basket and one had to use two hands to open the basket and hold the soap saver. The old ads would say "ladies those days are gone forever!" Painting of the happy housewife and all that.
This is actually much easier to use as I just tried the old worse version. The old worse version does have a bit more charm.
With the old worse version one must slide back the ring and then open the basket and this takes two hands. With the new improved version one squeezes the handle and it pops right open and then pop in the soap sliver.
At 11" long this gives one a bit more distance between the hand and the hot scalding lye filled water. No more peeling flesh!
