My 10 Euro thrift shop buy. There are varied maker marks on these brooches. The mark on this one looks like an "R" in a lozenge. Diameter is 6 cm. Gram weight is just over 27 g.
Info comes from Flying Tiger Antiques:
"This is a beautiful circa 1900 Norwegian brooch in .830 silver. The scene on the brooch depicts the “Birch Legs”: soldiers who in the early 13th century skied through treacherous conditions to safeguard the baby and heir of their murdered king, King Haakon. The soldiers wore birch bark leggings to protect their extremities from the wintry weather. The brooch reads “Birkebeinerne redder unge Haakon Haakonson paa ski til Trondheim” (The Birch Legs save young Haakon Haakonson on skis to Trondheim)."
Thanks for looking!

A romantic bit of Scandinavia. Neat.
Hey Bonnie, great find! :^D Remember this:

It was one of my first posts to CW! :^)
I was able to see the movie made in Norway, about this event. It was very good, but in Norwegian, with English subtitles. The movie, I think was "The Child King" not sure about, was made in 2016, and released in 2017. :^)
Here's the trailer for the movie "The Last King" not "The Child King", on YouTube:

I think the full video is available, but may cost! :^)
Hey Bill, thanks for the info/links!
Always happy to help, if I can Bonnie! :^)
