Found some neat vintage photographs one of them looks to be a ceremony of Franco-Prussian War. veterans.. on bottom has Kampfgenossen derein 1870 71.. in back of picture has a taped message.. would appreciate any anymore information on this.. thank you
Not Civil War veterans or taken in the US.
They are Franco-Prussian War veterans. The dates of 1870- 71 on the mount and the statue are the quickest way to discern it is not Civil War.
Additionally, none of the veterans are wearing the GAR badge which would be expected of a post- War shot of US Civil War veterans.

Scott, don't forget, there was the UCV as well. Agreed on the Franco-Prussian War.

I know of several Union Regiments that were German and have seen German veterans groupings from the Union. With the statue in the back, I initially thought this might be a Regimental group (still could be, just not US).
While Germans served in CS units, I don't know of any CS German Regiments.

I must correct my statement that this photo was taken in Germany. When I tried to identify the monument I found that it was located on Washington Square in Davenport Iowa. It was removed in 1918. So this is a group photo of German Franco-Prussian War Veterans taken in Davenport Iowa. The group went by the name Kampfgenossen von 1870-1871.
