This beauty was fetched from an estate sale for very little because it was mostly covered in rust. I tried to restore it back to what it might of looked like originally.

      Hey there,
My parents hav a very similar trunk that they are looking to restore. There are no identifiable marks anywhere on the trunk but it is alligator embossed, two front horizontal slats, and 4 or 5 top horizontal slats. I should love any information of this trunk/ how to go about identifying the trunk we have.

Hey Mike, not a big deal, but just so you know for your self, this is not a steamer trunk, most people call every trunk a steamer trunk, this is a travel trunk, steamer trunks are a specific shape usually in 30 to 36 inch or so in length and usually no more than 14 inches tall so they could slide under the bunks of steamer ships as space was limited, hence the name steamer trunk, greendog.

As always, thanks for the info greendog. I grew up calling anything that looked like a pirates chest a steamer trunk. Since finding this site because of folks like you I have been and continue to be pleasantly educated :)

Thanks TheGateKeeper, Elisedont and and hunterglee.

Elisedont without any identifying label, hardware or markings, its fairly difficult to specifically identify these things. I would post a picture of yours and let the good folks here perform their best CSI.
