Texas bluebonnet paintings are a very popular subject for Texas artists. The bluebonnet is the Texas state flower. Many Texas artists "made their mark" by painting scenes containing these flowers. Barbara G. McConnell was born on 16 February 1922 and was still living and active as of 2015. She and her husband LTC Kendred McConnell were long time residents of San Antonio, TX. This watercolor is 7.5" x 11". This was a $4.99 find at Goodwill today in its original mat and frame. Mrs. McConnell exhibited widely in Texas from the 1970s to the present and is a well known regional artist, a member of the River Art Group of San Antonio and the South Western Watercolor Society of Dallas, TX. Where she received her artistic training is not known. I am still researching her career.

A really odd coincidence is that about two months ago I found "River Scene", by Izetta Perkins, (7.5" x 9.75", watercolor on paper) who is also a member of the River Art Group of San Antonio, also in her 90s (b. 1926), also still active and also a watercolor artist. They must know each other! I found Izetta's painting in a different town in a different kind of thrift shop, a Restore Store. She and I have corresponded a bit as I work on her biography for my art collection web site.

I also found an unused Westmoreland Glass paneled grape salt and pepper shaker set that I don't think that I already have for $1.99. Probably won't show those unless someone is interested in seeing them.

Thanks for the comment dlpetersen! I heard back from the River Art Group in San Antonio and they are sending my contact information to Barbara McConnell via snail mail. She isn't on the Internet.
