Today's find!
Yes, I am supposed to be preparing for a move but how could I possibly pass on this?
A silky smooth satin glass vase in stripes of pale pink & blue, made from three cased layers. The outer casing is clear, & quite thick, & there are two very thin inner layers of pink/blue stripes & opal. The vase measures 14.5 cm tall, 5 cm across the immaculately polished top rim (I think the best example of polishing I've seen), & 5.5 cm across the base, which does not have a pontil mark that I can discern - unless it has been polished out to perfection, which may be the case.
There is delicate raised enamel decoration of branches, leaves, & fruit in light yellow - orange, & a discreet gilded ring around the footed base.
This piece just oozes quality...I am thinking Bohemian & perhaps Harrach?
Lovely, and a restrained palette for rainbow glass. The depiction of the veining of the leaves is also seen on enameled work by Goldberg. Just a thought.....
Thanks so much, sklo42! Goldberg was a "refinery", wasn't it? So perhaps they did the decor with a blank made elsewhere...
You're right on Goldberg being refiners, IronLace, and that they used blanks. Also I expect you know that one colour enameling was used beneath gilding to make the gilding 'stand out' as it were. Good luck!
The plot thickens! :-)
Gorgeous!
Many thanks, Starrynight!
