An antique mall find. It is built and painted. Not painted all that well but it does have a certain charm.
The real thing was a WWII floatplane. Mostly it was known for being launched from battleships and cruisers from catapults. That had to be fun. There was a fixed (means it doesn't move) .30 machine gun for the pilot and a free (it moves) .30 machine gun for the radio operator/gunner/observer. Not much of an armament but luckily Japanese planes were a bit fragile.
The main job of these planes was observation. They were also used t5o recue downed pilots. They couldn't carry many men and sometimes they would just taxi with men sitting on the wings.
It wasn't a fast plane either. Had a 450 HP engine which isn't much for a WWII war plane. Had to be light to be launched of a catapult.
Does make a neat looking model.

This was one of the last Monogram Model of the WW II USN 1/48 series issued in '67. I loved this group and built them all. The Kingfisher was more detailed(better skin, interior) than previous models. Monogram had changed to compete with more detailed foreign made models. They issued the p-38, Mosquito etc. around this time. Good find FtApache.

Thank you very much Toyrebel. I had a feeling it was Mongram but I wasn't sure. It is much better detailed than the typical Monogram kit. They had more models at this model the best being the submarine with detailed interior.
