These were recent finds from the Flea Market and Thrift Store. First is the Haldeman Caliente Handmade California satin matte blue Posy Ring Vase. I've never seen this piece before, and it looks to be in like new condition, for being 80+ years old, it's 10"across and 1" high, and has the Haldeman cut-and-fold design. Haldeman Caliente pottery was opened in Burbank, So. Calif. in 1933. A great find for me, to go with my other Haldeman pieces! :^D Next is one of my favorite California Pottery, a nice Monterey Jade V9 vase, it has a nice color mix, and is 5 5/8" high, and 2 3/4" across the base. Monterey Pottery began in 1948, in the Carmel Valley, and started using the Monterey Jade name sometime in the 1950's. I have quite a few pieces of Monterey Jade, and every one has a different blended color combo. like the California Rock that it's named after! The third vase, is a classic shaped, red clay slip-molded, and hand finished vase, it reminds me of California Faience, but I can't make out the mark on the bottom. It's got a modeled green glaze, on the outside, and unglazed on the inside, with a clear glaze on the bottom. I won't attempt the mark . . . any ideas? The vase is 4 3/4"high, 2"across the top, and bottom, and 3 3/4" at the widest point
Thanks for looking, all questions, or comments welcome! :^)
Beautiful pottery Bill! I love that Posy Ring vase. And, I love even more the Monterey Jade vase! That glaze is amazing! I thought, at first glance, that it was made out of stone, some kind of agate, with the pattern, color, and almost translucent lighter colors. Just gorgeous! As for the last mystery one, I just have no idea except my first thought is that it is a newer studio art pottery piece. The glaze is lovely. Great finds! - Mary
As for the last piece, Bill, I really have no idea. I have no knowledge of California Faience. But, your post is causing me to look into it now! It's beautiful stuff!
Thank you so much for your very nice comments Mary(Poire), and your love is always appreciated! :^)
Yes the California Faience is beautiful, and I wish that I could find more pieces of it, that I could afford! :^D I do think that this vase is not as clean as California Faience, but it reminded me of it. It might be a more recent Studio Pottery piece! :^)
Thank you for looking Thomas, and loving what you saw! :^)
