Hi CW Gang:
Found this today as I happen to go past a Garage sale here today - just down the block from me. I snapped this up as it just screamed old to me. The Bull Dog Mascot has been an advertisting Icon of mack trucks for years. This is a Cigar ashtray // Hood ornament due to the bigger rest, but an Ashtray is still an Ashtray for other smokes too. The people home I bought it from were older and downsizing. Marked on the bottom with "Central Die Casting & Mfg Co. Chicago USA". This is heavy - weighs 1 lb 13 oz. It is 7-1/4" in diameter and 5" tall. On the front embossed with MACK and a Patent Number of 87931. I looked around and that is the patent number for this says Circa 1932....but I am not sure if this is that old. Had lots of dust in the right nooks....LOL.
Thanks for LOOKING // LOVING !!

Excellent find and just down the block!!
I've been looking for on of these, at a reasonable cost, without any luck. Congrats....love it :)
I'm in love with Mack the bulldog, what a fabulous silver ashtray
I remember one of these in the optometrist office my aunt worked at in the 60's. I've never seen one since then until this post. Very nice.
Extremely popular these were made heavy into the 60's and also adorned the Mack truck, love this well marked ashtray Rose.
Often sold as a mascot, there are many that are made and sold as mascots with no marks on them to flood the mascot market.
Hey cool Rose, I just got a Mack Truck Brass Bull Dog hood ornament DESIGN PATENT 87931 and has MACK on his collar, in new condition, but no mount base, at a garage sale a month ago. The lady wanted $3. and I felt that I couldn't ask for less! :^D I see the Ashtrays every once in a while, but always more then I want to pay, nice find! :^)
The mascots were not sold with bases but you could add your own. I think my mascot has the parts issue box which had a spring for it also.
I have one of the Mack Truck Dog ashtray. It was given to me by the Mack Truck Co in the early 70's along with a Mack Truck Radio made like a Mack Oil Filter ....The company I worked for manufactured Piston Rings and Oil Filters for the big Mack Trucks so these two items were a gift to us from Mack Truck....
