These two recovered recently from a scrap brick pile at a construction site near where I myself was working, where a late 1800's brick building was being cleaned and restored. Can't say for certain that these bricks are that old, but it certainly isn't impossible either...??
A quick Google search reveals that ST. JOE Brick was indeed founded in the late 1800's, near NewOrleans, LA, where it remains in business today. (apparently still making bricks pretty much just like this one, using a sorta 'old-fashioned' method) The only references I found to BISHOP BRICK suggests it was made by a company near Houston, TX which was purchased by ACME Brick in the late 1940's, but no info about when BISHOP began manufacturing.
St Joe is still in business and they stilllook just like that
Thanks VERY MUCH to elanski, iggy, SpiritBear, Anik. valentino97, fortapache, jscott0363, Toyrebel, and Vynil33rpm for stopping by and sharing the love of my old bricks!! :-) :-) :-)
