    Hello all!

I work as a librarian in a public library and a patron recently asked my help in identifying this sword he acquired. You can't really see it in the pictures he send me but he writes that "the bottom half off the blade is blue with highly stylized etchings including the words 'E Pluribus Unum.' The top half is steel with no markings." I don't know anything about swords so any help in pointing me in the right direction or suggestions and tips on how to research this would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

It looks like some kind of sword that someone would mount on a horse because something that heavy would not be carried around on foot. It would be more useful to swing it towards the enemy while you are on a horse plus don’t forget that one could use the lower sharp portion of the sword to stab the opponent. This might be a horse Calvary military sword. I definitely would be looking in to that possibility.
