Hello everyone!!
I found this Armor Bronze (National Metalizing Company, NYC) Scottish terrier at an estate sale for $10.00!! This one was made sometime during the mid to early 1930's. As you can see, it's not solid bronze, but bronze clad, over what this company referred to as an "Everlasting Core" (not sure what an everlasting core would be made of) and polychrome painted over the bronze cladding. This was actually made by the National Metalizing Company, NYC, but they adapted the name Armor Bronze as their trade name until the mid-1930's. They were in business in NYC from about 1890 thru the mid-1930's before moving to Taunton, MA and in 1946 they changed their name to Armor Bronze and Silver Co. By 1950 they'd phased out all of the electroformed bronze clad bookends.
This fella would have been a bookend. He measures 7" long and 5 1/4" tall. He weighs no more than a pound or so. Though he has quite a bit of polychrome paint loss, he's still in pretty fair condition.
Thanks for stopping in for a look!!!
Scott
He's so cute with those alert eyes, quite real looking
Thanks Jenni!! He is cute for sure. That's why he caught my eye.
Thanks Ken!! Hard to believe he's nearly as old as my 87 year old mother.
