One of our local Antique shops advertised they had a bunch of vintage Matchbox on FB so I had to stop by and see. I knew this was the one I wanted but I had to check price and condition. Both were great so here it is.
This is the MG-1 Service Station. Not exactly sure when it was released but the pump set (sold separately) was first sold in 1963. The pump set was sold through 1967 so likely the service station was sold through 1967 too. Close to that at least. The service station was sold without the pumps and the tall BP sign. It came just as seen in photo #2.
Some notes on the set. It is surprisingly small. The is the exact size of a mouse pad. But by being two stories tall it has a bit more space. Plus the clear plastic makes it great for displaying the models. As seen in photo #2 the cars drive up a ramp in the back to get to the top. Requires hand power and making motor noise. There is a staircase in the center so the pretend people can go up or down.
Perhaps the best point about this set is the style. Lots of style going on here. The curved plastic/glass is a nice touch and yes you have to love the colors on this.
Got a great price on this so I must go back and get more but then again I still need a GI Joe Desert Attack Jeep.
Wow! That is super nice!
I didn't know they made a service station back then. It's in great shape and you're right about the windows adding to the effect. Nice score and a great Matchbox Monday share, kudos.
Fantastic service station, what an intricate & cool design
