A little something I picked up at last month's Long Beach Antique Market. I wasn't planning on buying but the seller said $40 and I gave him $40. For those of you who have priced swords like this it is a good price. The scabbards go for that much.
The sword is made in Pakistan and the quality seems to be about the same as the Windlass Steel swords made in India. Seems to be decent quality but I wouldn't want to bang it around in a movie style sword fight. The blade is only two feet long but if you are going to be dragging it around a ren faire you won't have it banging on your ankles and causing other trouble so much. It does make that nifty sword sound when you take it out of the sheath.
Now for a note on medieval combat. In the movies they are always going at it with swords even though they are wearing heavy armor. It is very hard to get through chain or plate with even a heavy sword. A big hammer works better, or something with a spike. I use the sword on the peasant rabble myself. But a proper knight must have a sword.
My outfit is a Norman knight sort of thing. Just need a better tunic and I will be all set.
