This was 'appropriated' from my then-landlord's hoards of stuff (he had several assorted buildings-ful at the time) probably 20yrs or so ago. [RIP, Raymond] At the time these ashtrays were still not uncommonly found in places like gas stations/c-stores that actually *sold* cigarettes, having been produced shortly before the US gov't passed regulative legislation that forbade cigarette companies from "branding" promotional items (ashtrays, t-shirts, hats, etc. etc) with their actual names. [it was kinda the 'just say NO' era, perhaps the start of what's grown into our current societal problem with 'political correctedness' and such, but whatever...?] They were usually used with a shallow layer of sand inside, to snuff out lit butts.
Made of red extruded plastic with the MARLBORO name (and gov't required warning label) printed vertically on its opposite sides, with a (spun?) aluminum top/lid. It stands about 21" tall and is about 10" across. Its bottom side has a mold number and states "THIS TOOLING IS THE PROPERTY OF PHILIP MORRIS U.S.A.".
I have the exact ashtray. However, mine was well used and rough when I acquired it so I keep it on the back patio as a place to snuff your cig before you come in.
Nice to see your wonderful brand new vintage example!
THANKS to fortapache, nutsabotas6, Caperkid, and Karenoke for your <love its>!!
Karen, this one isn't 'brand new' by any means -- it *did* clean up pretty well, but still has plenty of scuffs/scratches/stains as evidence that its seen at least some 'public duty' someplace, before Raymond [RIP, again] picked it up somewhere and I in turn snatched it from him... ;-)
